was born in a very small town twenty-five miles outside of Basel, Switzerland.
My love of baking cakes began in Switzerland. I took an apprenticeship to a
chef at the 5 star Hotel Bad Ramsach, where I met my husband. We opened up our
own restaurant close to Basel. After growing up in Switzerland my whole life
my husband and I moved to Little Torch Key in the Florida Keys in 1991.
We started working at the unique 5 diamond, 5-star Relais
Chateaux Resort “Little Palm Island” for five years. This resort
attracted the likes of President Truman and his wife Bess as well as President
John F. Kennedy and was recognized in the 2007 Conde’ Nast Traveler Gold
List of world’s best places to stay. As the Pastry Chef at The “Little
Palm Island Resort” we catered to an international clientele, celebrating
couples, lawyers, doctors and celebrities seeking peace and quiet and the delicacies
from my inventive pastries and cakes.
We then decided to move to Charleston, South Carolina and cultivate my pastry
and wedding cake baking skills. I started working at the 4 diamond, 4-star Award
Wining Peninsula Grill as their Pastry Chef in 1996. During this time my desire
to focus on Wedding Cakes and unique designs moved me to begin making wedding
cakes at home. In 1998, I was helping a friend with her Wedding Cake business
and she moved away from Charleston. I decided that I would start my own baking
company Tiers of Joy.
After my craftsmanship of designing cakes became an overwhelming passion, I
decided to leave the Peninsula Grill in December 2004 and focus completely
on my business. My goal is to bring joy and excellent quality to the wedding
cakes I bake for Charleston brides and their families.
All my cakes are baked from scratch, using only freshest ingredients. Every
wedding cake will be iced with a rich and airy white chocolate butter cream.
